Shiny Pin Productions is a creative collaboration between actress / producer Helena Michell (The Deceivers, A Piece of Cake, Little Box of Sweets) and writer / designer / director Simon David Eden (The Albatross 3rd & Main, The Gift of the Gab, More Things in Heaven & Earth)

The mission: to try to make the world a better place one story at a time. Well, maybe make that two stories at a time. No wait a minute, we’ve got at least three things on the go right now and we’ve just thought of another one. Anyway, ‘be the miracle’, that’s our company motto. And if you can be the miracle and make a nice cup of tea, we like the cut of your jib.

An alumnus of the Royal College of Art Film School (MA Dist) Simon was the pioneer Goldcrest Scholar, and while still a student he produced a raft of award-winning short films including BAFTA winner La Boule. Helena & Simon's daughter Millie inspired the eco-fantasy novel The Savage Kingdom (published in English by Simon & Schuster, and also in translation in Brazil and Poland) by asking a profound and beautiful question aged 11: 'If we cut down all the trees where will the birds build their nests?' A reissue of TSK1 and the concluding part of the epic TSK2 is to be published winter 2021

Music plays a vital part in every project we produce, from compiling atmospheric playlists for the interval of a stage play, writing & recording songs, to collaborating on soundscapes with world class musicians as we recently did with the extraordinary French harpist/composer Elisabeth Valletti for the 'More Things in Heaven & Earth' Proof of Concept.

Simon's original screenplay for 'All Fall Down' a 90min episode for Carlton TV's medical drama series 'Bliss' won Best Feature Length Drama at the Quebec International Film Festival. The rise of great quality long form drama series in recent years has inspired the in-house development of several projects for which we are now seeking platforms/co-producing partners.

Exhibitions

Simon invented the 'codagraph' (three years after a world famous rock star told him that at thirtysomething, he was too old to have a career as an artist alongside writing!) and had his first solo show at the Square One Gallery, Kings Road, London, 2005. He has since exhibited his abstract fine art the world over, including by special invitation at the Tsinghua Academy of Arts in Beijing, China in 2006.
